1st RACE!!!

Hello to all.  I just wanted to say…

Guess What? I finished my 1st race (insert happy dance here!).  I ran for my first race the Glow Run 5K.  It was definitely a fun first race.

So after hearing some of my running blog friends run wearing costumes or Sparkle skirts, I decided to try and create a fun Sparkle skirt tradition as well. 

Because it was a glow run (and I had ordered a blue sparkle skirt), I thought maybe it would be bright and sparkly enough for a first run.  It also helped that most people were wearing orange, yellow, and pink, so my family/ friends could quickly pick me out in the crowd as the girl in all blue.

I didn’t stop for any pictures along the route which I now wish I had stopped once or twice for a couple of pictures.  But this was a fun run, they put out all sorts of large black lights, and glow sticks, and DJs along the course to add to the fun.  Our specific course was also set up right next to the river giving a great reflection of all the fun lights.

Now as this was my first race, I knew I wasn’t going to finish with a super fast time but I was hoping to finish under 1 hour (yes for a 5K, which is 3.1 miles).  I was concerned as I had only actually made it a full 3 miles 3 or 4 times before the race.  And my time (recorded on my phone- no official times were given) was 37:01 but that was for slightly less than 3 miles (or so my phone said- 2.97).  So I am happy to say that I definitely finished under the 1 hour mark.

After the race we were given a cool glow in the dark medals and yes I am the kind of person who was super excited to receive the “consolation you finished the race” medal.  And to note: I was just as excited to receive the number 495 (an equivalent of 5).

I don’t have any other races signed up for yet.  But now that I am sure that I can finish, I am going to start looking as soon as I publish this post.  So I will let you know what my next race is as soon as I find it.
