Whenever your child asks you a question feel free to tell them "Let me talk to your ____ (insert mom or dad)"
Rule #11-- Don't justify your decisions, explain them.
Don't just say "BECAUSE I SAID SO", instead you could explain, "We do this because ..." OR "Because this is what WE (our family) does".
Rule #12-- Motivate with meaning
Start by knowing your kids. As you can punish your by taking something they enjoy away (such as video games), you can also positively motivate your kids by giving them extra time with you watching/ playing with them.
Rule #13-- Remember that you are a role model for your child.
You will always be the person whom your child looks to for example, both good and bad. If you make a specific mistake commonly- your kids will make the mistake also (and probably worse and more often). Also, girls will commonly find husband that are like their dads and will treat their husband similarly to the way mom treats dad. As well as boys will commonly find wives that are like their moms and will treat their wife similarly to the way dad treats mom. So it is important to treat your kids and spouses with this in mind.
So we are working our way through the 20 rules of parenting. Come back next week to hear more of the rules.
