PAT Introduction and November Visit

Today we had our Parents as Teachers (PAT) home visit.  We have a PAT educator who comes to our house once a month to work with us and show us new ideas and skill concepts.

"Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an international early childhood parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age 5. PAT is voluntary, and free of charge to families living within the Wichita Public Schools boundaries.
Personalized Visits- Usually conducted in your home, a Parent Educator will share age-appropriate child development and parenting information; help you learn to observe your child; and address your parenting concerns.
Playgroups – An informal hour with a Parent Educator in a safe and educational environment to encourage children to develop a wide range of age-appropriate skills. There are many locations to choose from, and the playgroups are free."

Todays visit our educator brought with her a tub that included mainly rice and a few beans.  This tub included a paper towel cardboard, spoons, funnels, cups, bowls, and little dinosaurs to play with.  We filled up the bowl, transfered from spoons to cups, filled up the paper towel cardboard with the funnel, and even hid toys in the rice.  Here is a picture of the bucket as well as K filling up the funnel.  She really enjoyed this activity, in fact it kept her attention for just under an hour.
